IAF Seeking an Archival Research Officer

The Inuit Art Foundation is seeking applicants for an Archival Research Officer, a short-term Young Canada Works funded position.

The Inuit Art Foundation is seeking to hire a full-time Research Officer to work on its Inuit Artist Database and on organizing its archives from May 7 – July 27, 2018. The position may be extended to a 16 week contract ending August 29, 2018 dependent on successful funding applications. The Program Officer will work with IAF staff, Inuit artists and other cultural institutions to help digitize the IAF’s extensive archival materials and to create biographical profiles of Inuit artists from across Canada using that data. The Research Officer will be responsible for conducting digitizing paper, photo and other archival files; conducting original research; liaising with other cultural organizations to access related archival material; managing image permissions related to archival works; conducting interviews to enhance and verify research; and writing original artist biographies.

The IAF is seeking a candidate with the following profile for the placement:

• A student seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in art history, information studies, visual arts, museum studies or related field;
• Previous experience working in a cultural institution or non-profit;
• Exceptional attention to detail;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize in order to meet deadlines;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience with database software considered an asset; and
Meets the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations student eligibility requirements.

Foundational knowledge of Inuit art will be considered a strong asset.

Contract Dates: May 7 – July 27, 2018 (August 29, 2018 dependent on funding)
Hourly Wages: $15.00 per hour
