What is The Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award?
Established in 2014, The Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Fund provides up to $10,000 every two years to an established Inuit artist to support a residency in honour of the late Kenojuak Ashevak. The recipient will have achieved an outstanding body of work and demonstrated commitment to the arts at a local, regional or national level in Canada.
An exceptional artist, pioneer and role model, Kenojuak Ashevak (1927-2013) received many awards in recognition of her contributions to arts and culture within Canada. She was conscious of the significance of these opportunities and spoke often about the importance of encouraging future generations of Inuit artists. The Inuit Art Foundation created the memorial fund and awards program in order to continue this vital legacy.
When is it awarded?
Beginning in 2018, the fund is awarded every two years. Check back in Spring 2018 for more details.
