What is The Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award?

Established in 2014, the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Fund provides up to $10,000 biennially to an established Inuit artist to support a residency in honour of the late Kenojuak Ashevak, CC, ON, RCA (1927-2013).

An exceptional artist, pioneer and role model, Ashevak was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her contributions to the arts and cultural life of Inuit Nunangat and globally. A leader in the field, Ashevak spoke often on the importance of encouraging future generations of Inuit artists. The Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Fund was created by the Inuit Art Foundation to honour this vital legacy.

When is it awarded?

2018 marks the first year that the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award will be awarded. As it is a biennial award, it will be available again in two years.
