Ilisarniq Workshop: Throat Singing

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn fundamentals of Inuit throat singing with Charlotte Qamaniq, whose throat singing career has led to three Juno Award nominations. Topics covered will include the history behind the practice as well as the basics of technique and traditional songs. Charlotte will guide you through various exercises and vocal warm-ups to help you develop the skills to produce the different sounds and rhythms of Inuit throat singing.

Throughout the workshop, you will have the opportunity to practice your new skills by singing and experimenting with other participants. This workshop is open to all skill levels and ages, including children!

  • Charlotte Qamaniq
    Charlotte Qamaniq is a North Baffin Inuk performance artist, actor, and contemporary and traditional throat singer hailing from Iglulik, Nunavut. She is best known for her work in the throat singing duo Silla, and in twice Juno nominated band Silla and Rise.
