Biography

Vanessa Flowers is a seamstress and artisan from Hopedale, NL. She first began sewing at the age of fifteen when she attended a local sewing group held by Sarah Jensen. It was there she completed her first pair of moosehide slippers, with continuous support from Sarah and her grandmother, Andrea Flowers. She gained confidence in her ability and continued to make slippers, which range in size from baby to adult, and include intricate beadwork. Along with slippers, she currently makes Inuit dolls, moccasins, and various keychain patterns.

Recently, a pair of her baby slippers were included in SakKijâjuk: Art and Craft from Nunatsiavut (2016-2017) at The Rooms in St. John's and travelled around Canada.

Accomplishments

2017: Winner of logo design contest for the Nunatsiavut tuberculosis awareness campaign held by the Nunatsiavut Government Department of Health and Social Development.
