Section 1: Artist Experience

Do you consider yourself an emerging or established artist?

Emerging

  • I have been actively making art for at least 1 year

  • I am entering or am in the early stages of my professional career

  • I am at least 18 years old

  • I have some training, experience or accomplishment in my artistic practice (not necessarily in academic institutions)

  • I am committed to the ongoing development of my skills and artistic practice

Established

  • I have been actively making art for at least 2 years

  • I have specialized training in my artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions)

  • I am recognized as a professional by my peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition)

  • I am committed to devoting more time to artistic activity, if possible financially

  • I have a history of public presentation or publication.

*If you find you haven’t met the criteria for an Established or Emerging Artist, don’t feel discouraged. Applying for Kajungiqsaut Grants does require that you have a bit more experience with your art practice. Keep at it and we encourage you to try again for our next grant cycle!

Section 2: Which Grant Stream?

Emerging

If you fall under the Emerging Artist category, we suggest you start your Kajungiqsaut Grants journey with the Sutaarutit stream:

Sutaarutit

  • Grants of $500 or $1,000

  • Dedicated to funding the purchase of artistic supplies

Why is this best for me?

  • I am a first time grant applicant

  • I am a visual artist and do not live in Ontario

  • I am looking for an accessible, entry level grant to support my skills and career development

  • This stream would give me experience in grant writing

Established

If you fall under the Established Artist category, you qualify for all 3 streams of Kajungiqsaut Grants and choosing a stream will depend more on the scope of your activities:

Sutaarutit

  • Grants of $500 or $1,000

  • Dedicated to funding the purchase of artistic supplies

Iniqarvik

  • Grants of $3,500 or $5,000.

  • Small to medium scale activities

  • Inuit creatives from all disciplines

  • Funds activities focused on artistic learning, experimentation, and development.

Turaagaq

  • Grants of $10,000 or $15,000

  • Large-scale activities

  • Inuit creatives from all disciplines

  • Intended for established artists with well-developed activities

Why is Sutaarutit best for me?

  • My only objective is to purchase or gather the artistic supplies I need.

Why is Iniqarvik best for me?

  • I am seeking support for my artistic growth and development

  • I am seeking funding to learn or expand new skills

  • I want to experiment with new media and develop my ideas

  • I want support for portfolio development and/or self-marketing

Why is Turaagaq best for me?

  • I am an artist or curator who already has solid foundations and is seeking funding for a substantial project

  • I want to engage my community with the arts

  • I want to create a new body of work

  • My main objective is the creation of work, not the selling of work
