Biography

Joanne Taptuna is a textile artist from Kugluktuk, NU, who is known for her floral beadwork and embroidery on kamiik and mukluks. She is the former mayor of Kugluktuk, and married to former Nunavut Premiere Peter Taptuna. Taptuna creates for her family, both in that she produces mukluks and kamiik principally for their use, and that she desires to work on her technique so she can pass the skills on to her children and grandchildren. After attending a mukluk-making workshop in February 2019, Taptuna began selling her footwear to people across Nunavut. She exhibited her works at the Nunavut Arts and Crafts Festival in 2019.View Long Biography and Citations
