Biography
Katherine Takpannie is an artist and writer currently based in Ottawa, ON. Takpannie works primarily with photography that she uses to capture performative and political gestures, often set against natural and built environments, including intimate portraits of women. In March 2018, Takpannie captured photos of Nunavut Sivuniksavut (NS) students who staged a Pro Seal Hunt Rally on Parliament Hill–a hybrid fashion show, dance performance and protest. Takpannie is also a graduate of the NS program. In 2020, she was a recipient of the Scotiabank NewGen Photography Award.
