The Igloo Tag Trademark
The Igloo Tag Trademark is an internationally recognized symbol that denotes handmade, original artwork made by Inuit artists in Canada. Established in 1958, the Trademark is now managed by the Inuit Art Foundation. The appearance of the Igloo Tag on an artist profile means they have had the Trademark applied to their artwork.

Lukie Airut was a carver from Iglulik (Igloolik), NU. Airut’s sculptures were influenced by the land and often featured animals, birds and people in traditional camps. Working primarily in bone, Airut carved in the round with each angle revealing subtle details. In particular, Airut was known for his elaborate walrus skull sculptures. Airut’s work has been exhibited internationally and is in the collections of many major institutions, including the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. In 2004 he received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for his years of service with the Canadian Rangers.View Long Biography and Citations
