Artistic Community:

Kinngait (Cape Dorset), NU

Date of Birth:

Artists may have multiple birth years listed as a result of when and where they were born. For example, an artist born in the early twentieth century in a camp outside of a community centre may not know/have known their exact date of birth and identified different years.

Date of Death:

Artists may have multiple dates of death listed as a result of when and where they passed away. Similar to date of birth, an artist may have passed away outside of a community centre or in another community resulting in different dates being recorded.

Born in a remote part of the south coast of Qikiqtaaluk, NU Parr lived a traditional nomadic lifestyle for most of his life. In 1961 he settled in Kinngait with his family, at which point he began drawing. Parr’s drawings were heavily influenced by his experiences as a hunter as his chosen subjects were arctic animals and hunters. He produced over 2000 drawings in about eight years and was included in every Cape Dorset Print Collection from 1961-1970. Parr is part of the first generation of Kinngait printmakers.View Long Biography and Citations
