Ilisarniq Series: How to Apply for the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award

Thinking about nominating yourself or someone else for the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award?

Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 2pm ET/11am PT for a conversation with IAF Board President, Heather Igloliorte, Taqralik Partridge, and one of last year’s shortlisted nominees, Eldred Allen!

Together with IAF staff, they will be walking through everything you need to know to submit a complete nomination package. That includes things like:

  • Who is eligible to nominate and be nominated
  • Options for submission to meet various accessibility needs
  • Important deadlines
  • Tips and tricks for filling out the nomination form
  • What kind of support materials are required
  • Selection criteria

Most importantly, we’ll be opening the conversation up so you can ask us questions!

Heather Igloliorte is the President of the Inuit Art Foundation's Board of Directors, and Director of Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership. She is an Inuk scholar and independent curator who holds the University Research Chair in Indigenous Art History and Community Engagement at Concordia University.

Taqralik Partridge is a writer, spoken word poet and curator originally from Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, QC, now living in Kautokeino, Norway. Partridge's writing focuses on both life in the north and in southern urban centres, as well as the experiences of Inuit. She also incorporates throat singing into her live performances.

Eldred Allen is a photographer from Rigolet, Nunatsiavut, NL, who uses handheld cameras, drones and 3D modelling. A determination to record the land around him is at the driving core of Allen’s artistic practice. To that end, he uses photospheres and orthomosaics to immerse viewers in vast swaths of landscape. He is one of the few Inuit artists working in the medium.
