Artists may have multiple birth years listed as a result of when and where they were born. For example, an artist born in the early twentieth century in a camp outside of a community centre may not know/have known their exact date of birth and identified different years.

Date of Death:

Artists may have multiple dates of death listed as a result of when and where they passed away. Similar to date of birth, an artist may have passed away outside of a community centre or in another community resulting in different dates being recorded.

Alec Aliknak Banksland was a carver and printmaker, devoting most of his artistic career to the latter. Residing in Ulukhaktok, NT, he was a founding member of the Holman Printmaking program, and has worked under many names in his career, including Peter Aliknak, and simply Aliknak. He worked in a variety of printmaking techniques, including screen printing, yet etching was his preferred method. His work was featured in the Holman Annual Print Collection from 1967-1994. His work is represented in many international public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.View Long Biography and Citations
