Biography

Inspired at age 10 to experiment with beads after receiving some as a gift from a relative, jeweller Karlyn Blake now creates and sells intricately beaded earrings under the label Designs by Karjoy. She sells largely online, and her work has been featured in Tusaayaksat magazine. Among her most inventive designs incorporate moosehide, beadwork and discharged bullets used by her husband on his hunting trips, which she then filed down.

Outside of jewellery-making, Blake has begun making moccasins and slippers. Her work has been admired and purchased via Instagram across Canada and the world.
