Born in Inuvik, NT, Verna Taylor grew up in Tuktoyaktuk, NT alongside her brothers and sisters. The Taylor family includes many well-known artists and Verna learned to carve from other family members and friends [1]. Her father’s legacy is something she wants to carry and it shows in her work. She grew up with the stories from the Inuvialuit culture, and depicts the transformation stories and legends. She carves and paints a wide range of animals such as eagles, dog teams, bears, musk ox's and caribou. Taylor is always trying something new and takes advantage of what is around her.
