Biography

Mathew Ashevak is a carver from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), NU, who works primarily with stone and bone. The son of Adamie Ashevak and grandson of Kenojuak Ashevak, Matthew began carving at the age of five. Known for his openwork carving technique and attention to detail, the bulk of his work focuses on shamans and transformation, although, like his father, he frequently carves dancing figures. His carvings have been exhibited in Toronto, Quebec City, and Vancouver.View Long Biography and Citations
