Can Inuit artists living in Ontario apply for Sutaarutit?
Yes, starting in the 2026-2027 cycle, Sutaarutit is now open to artists living in all provinces and territories, including Ontario!
Please note: The IAF still partners with the Ontario Arts Council to assess applications for their Indigenous Visual Artist Materials Grant (IVAM), which is for Ontario artists only. We highly encourage Inuit artists living in Ontario to apply to IVAM in addition to Sutaarutit. Please make sure you apply for different expenses than those listed in your Sutaarutit application. If you have any questions about applying, please reach out to us.
Can I apply to multiple streams?
Yes, you may apply to more than one grant stream.
Can I receive multiple grants?
Recipients may receive one grant from Sutaarutit, Iniqarvik, or Turaagaq, and because we have multiple deadlines for Sutaarutit, everyone can also receive one additional Sutaarutit grant within our program cycle (typically September through March) for a maximum of two grants per program cycle. If you apply for two Sutaarutit grants, they must be for different deadlines and different expenses.
If you received a Kajungiqsaut grant in the previous cycle and have not yet completed and reported on your project you can still apply for a new grant in the current cycle even if the deadline comes before you expect to finish your earlier project. However, if you are approved for a grant in this cycle, any new funding will be held until all final reports from the previous program cycle are received.
How old do I need to be to apply for Kajungiqsaut Grants?
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for all streams of Kajungiqsaut.
Can I use my social media as a portfolio to show my artistic examples when applying to Kajungiqsaut Grants?
We no longer accept a social media account as the only method of providing your artistic examples in your application. You must provide examples of your work in the form of downloadable files (such as JPEG images, PDFs or H264 video files) in your application. For media work, password protected Vimeo or Youtube links are also acceptable provided that the links will be valid for a period of at least 4 months from the application deadline. It is the applicant's responsibility to double check links and ensure they remain functional.
Will I receive feedback on my application whether I am successful or not?
Yes, whether or not your application is successful, upon request the Program Officer can provide you with anonymous feedback from the Inuit Peer Assessment process. Please note, all decisions made by the Inuit Peer Assessment Committee are final, but you are welcome to revise your application and re-submit it to another Kajungiqsaut deadline within the same cycle or in the next cycle.
Can I provide feedback on the application process?
Yes, please! Our goal is to make our programs as accessible for Inuit as possible. We encourage feedback on all our programs, including the application and evaluation processes. Please contact us anytime to share feedback or fill out our anonymous feedback survey.
Can students apply?
Yes students can apply, but this is not a scholarship program so funds cannot be used towards tuition.

When will I find out if my application was approved?
Applicants will find out 8-16 weeks after the application deadline.
Can I apply to Kajungiqsaut Grants again for a project that was previously successful?
Yes. For Sutaruutit applications you may apply again as long as you mention that the project was previously funded and explain how this is for a different phase of the project.
For Iniqarvik or Turaagaq applications, please make a note in the project budget and include a description that explains how these new funds are for a different phase of your project and will not be put towards expenses that were covered by your earlier grant(s).
Can I apply to Kajungiqsaut Grants and Canada Council for the Arts (CCA) to fund the same project?
Yes. If you do not yet have confirmed funding from CCA, you may apply to KG for the same expenses. However, if you already have confirmed funding from CCA for your project, please note in your application which expenses are expected to be covered by Kajungiqsaut Grants and which expenses are being covered by CCA.
What should I expect if my application is successful?
If your application is successful, you will receive an email informing you of your confirmed grant funds as well as a few important links including a secure form to submit your SIN number and payment details. Once you submit the secure form with your payment details, the IAF prioritizes issuing payments as quickly as possible. Payments are issued electronically via Plooto, but cheques may be issued upon request. Timing may vary and you can reach out to us any time with questions or concerns.
After your project is complete, and before you can receive any additional grant funds from the Inuit Art Foundation, you will need to submit a simple final report.
