Art Toronto Opens on October 23

The 2025 edition of Art Toronto opens at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on October 23 and runs until October 26. This year, Calgary, AB, gallery Norberg Hall will be bringing new wallhanging I Heart Dollar Stores (2025) by artist Kablusiak and photographic work White Liar and the Known Shore: Frobisher and the Queen (2021) by Laakuluk Williamson Bathory and Jamie Griffiths. Feheley Fine Arts, local to Toronto, will be bringing several pieces, including sculpture Roaring Bear (n.d.) by Pauta Saila, New Boots (2025) by Ningiukulu Teevee, First Pond (2025) by Jessica Winters, a new installation by Michael Massie, CM, RCA, as well as works by Saimaiyu Akesuk, Annie Pootoogook, Abraham Anghik Ruben and Darcie Bernhardt. Galerie C.O.A. from Montreal, QC, will be bringing drawings by Pitseolak Qimirpik


Taalrumiq Competing in Project Runway Canada

Inuvialuk artist and designer Taalrumiq is among 12 designers participating in the third season of Project Runway Canada, which will premiere on November 14. Based in Northern BC with roots in Tuktuuyaqtuuq, Inuvialuit Settlement Region, NT, Taalrumiq creates works that incorporate Inuvialuit traditions with contemporary design. Her work has been featured in several exhibitions across Canada, and she has been named a TikTok Canada Visionary Voice and has participated in the Banff Centre’s Indigenous Haute Couture High Fashion residency. Over 10 episodes, the designers on Project Runway Canada will compete in a series of challenges to win the title of Canada’s next great designer, an investment of $100,000 and a feature spread in Elle Canada. New episodes will stream on Crave on Fridays until the season finale on January 16, 2026. 


Kablusiak Awarded the King Charles Medal

Multidisciplinary Inuvialuk artist and curator Kablusiak was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, honouring their contributions to Inuit art and culture. Their work often addresses themes of diaspora, mental illness and colonialism. Among their many other accolades, Kablusiak was the winner of the Sobey Art Award in 2023 and in 2020 was part of the all-Inuit curatorial team for INUA, the inaugural exhibition at the Inuit art centre at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq. 


Exhibition ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence of life Receives Award from the Société des musées du Québec

The exhibition  ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence of life, curated by asinnajaq at the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal, QC, was awarded the Prix Télé-Québec – Coup de cœur du jury by the Société des musées du Québec (SMQ).  ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence of life opened in 2024 and features works that highlight the rhythms of life particular to Inuit Nunanagat. The SMQ awards are given every year and are meant to acknowledge excellence in the Quebec museum sector.
